McCain wants to lift off-shore moratorium

It seems John McCain is finally starting to wake up. McCain announced today his desire to lift the 17 year old moratorium on offshore energy exploration and production. Up until now McCain has seemed to be running his campaign on a democratic platform. Although McCain has stated his desire to help stop global warming, I believe he is making the right decision here. At some point, we as Americans, must find a way to combat the $4-$5/gallon gasoline. Exploring our own land and beginning to produce our own fuel is essential to this. We cannot continue to be dependent on other countries when it comes to energy. One, energy is a matter of national security. Two, if we depend on other countries for oil, what's to say these countries won't maneuver themselves to gain an upper hand on the U.S.? These countries are already taking advantage of us gas guzzling Americans. The world isn't dumb, they know we will just keep piping out the money no matter how high the cost of oil rises. So I ask you, what other options do we have? Well, developing other means of energy is one. But these things are not here yet, not to mention the time it would take to implement these ideas. We have to start supporting ourselves. I believe if the U.S. would simply announce its intention to explore and drill here at home, the cost of foreign oil would drop 35-40% in a matter of weeks. So it's up to us to take the obvious steps to become independent of foreign oil. Now, wether McCain or Obama will take those steps, we will see.
